Bob graduated from Atkinson High School in May 1945 and soon after joined the Army. He served in the Army through the end of World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947.
Returning to Atkinson, he married the love of his life, Lois “Sue” Ratliff on January 21, 1951. Bob went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1953 from the University of Nebraska, where he was active in college track and field. Bob and Sue moved to Sunnyvale, California in 1959 where Bob worked for Lockheed Missles and Space Corporation. His work included direct support for nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site. Bob also earned a Master of Business Administration from University of Santa Clara in 1960.
Bob and Sue had four children: Steve, Debbie (Kidd), Pam (Bayless) and Lori (Booroojian). The family enjoyed camping, hiking and numerous summer road trips to visit family back in Nebraska. In California, the Kissingers often camped with other families from “The Mariners” group of Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church.
In retirement, Bob and Sue moved first to Placerville and then later to Roseville, California. They loved square dancing and traveled in their motorhome to numerous square dance events throughout the western U.S. They were also very active in the “55 Alive” program at Adventure Church of Roseville.
Ever the inquisitive engineer, Bob also enjoyed woodworking, using the personal computer and finding clever ways to solve life’s everyday technical challenges.
Sue preceded Bob in death in 2017 when she also passed away in memory care at Eskaton Village in Roseville.
More than anything else, Bob was a devoted husband, father and friend. He lived as a humble, loving and positive-spirited example of a good Christian man. He will be greatly missed.
