William Edward Carroll III passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 20th at his home. Bill was born in Rome, Georgia on June 20th 1970 to William Edward Carroll Jr. and Glenda Kidd Carroll. Bill attended Darlington School, the University of Georgia and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgia State University with a BBA in Accounting. He was a member of Beta Alpha Psi. He also studied at Berklee College of Music.
Bill earned his CPA and started his career in audit at EY. Bill spent 14 years at AIMC and was most recently CEO of Georgia Capital Management. Bill’s passions and career reflected his love for both numbers and music. Bill wrote songs, composed music and played in multiple bands. He adored playing and performing with bands Northern Lights, The Unusual Suspects and 3rd and Broad.
Bill is survived by his wife, Suni Hamm Carroll, his son, Will, his parents, Glenda and Bill, and his siblings, Rebecca Clements and Matthew. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome and on the board of Coosa River Basin Initiative.
A sweet smile, a gentle spirit, a love for people, music and nature…that is how we think of our son, brother, husband, father, cousin and friend, Bill Carroll. He was passionate about music and playing guitars with his many brothers in music. In Athens, He formed Northern Lights, his first band and most certainly his first love. Years of playing, loading and unloading equipment and driving to gigs followed. They recorded a CD. Bill’s roots in Rome deepened when he found fellow musicians in the bands The Unusual Suspects and 3rd and Broad. He loved playing in the local bars, restaurants, and venues that welcomed them.
We shift to numbers, analysis, journal entries…Bill passed the CPA and dove into a career of finance and accounting. He built his foundation at Ernst & Young then spent years implementing AIMC’s growth strategy. He structured deals, completed transactions, and integrated businesses. Bill was detailed and understood the implications and impacts of business transactions.
Bill loved the big sky and mountains out west. Red Rocks, Yosemite and Yellowstone were some of his favorite destinations. How many nature walks were taken, and how many “pets” were brought home? Dogs, turtles, hamsters, and yes, snakes. Cycling was a passion that led him to bike the Tour De France trails of the Pyrenees.
The best gift he ever received was his son, Will. He embraced fatherhood with his complete heart and soul. He was fascinated by his tender baby who grew into a beautiful, contemplative, inquisitive boy.
They spoke the same language and shared the same interests. He and his wife Suni built a house of laughter, love, music and fun.
We will love him always and will work to replace our grief with gratitude for all he brought to our lives. His family is profoundly appreciative for the love and support of family and friends.
There will be a private burial for the family. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, July 30th at Morris Chapel, Darlington School at 11:30AM and will be followed by a reception at Lawrence Plantation. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to ALCO-NON, Darlington School and Claws for Paws.
