In 1960, she married Dr. Billy D. Burk, the love of her life. They settled into Rome in 1976 and fell in love with the community and its residents. She and Billy did many wonderful things in Rome, supporting the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America as well as many other community organizations. Sandra volunteered at the hospital continuously truly living out her servants heart and spirit. Her faith and belief in God were rooted deeply within her Father's Ministry.
Her crowning accomplishment was when she became Chairman of the Board of Rome City Schools. She felt her biggest achievement in this roll was when she and Dr. Larry Atwell got passed what you know today as Rome City Schools. She loved her children and once told her sister her most important job in life was for her to protect those children.
The Family would like to thank the Care Givers in The Harbor for the excellent care and love they gave their Mother. They are very special people with a very hard job.
