Sam was a graduate of the Rome High class of 1957. He attended West Georgia College and the University of Georgia. He started his work career with Inland Container Corporation and retired from Proctor and Gamble.
Sam possessed a servant’s heart and spent his entire life until the very end with a focus on others first. He had a passion for serving the members of his family, his Trinity Methodist Church family, his Exchange Club family, and many others.
His civic involvement included terms as president of the West Rome High Boosters Club, the Rome Jaycees, the Exchange Club of Rome, and the Family Resource Center. He also served as a member of the Rome City School Board for many years.
Evidence of his servant’s heart was most pronounced through his tireless efforts to support his beloved Trinity Methodist Church. Sam was raised as a member of Trinity and spent his life attending to the needs of its members and the church campus located at 606 Turner McCall Boulevard.
In his retirement years, if not at home, you most likely could find him at Trinity or the Exchange Club Fairgrounds. Seems that he had a key to most everything at both locations. But best of all, he had the key to making people smile and feel welcome in most any situation. It will be difficult to visit either site in the future without thinking of Sam.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the many people who called, e-mailed, and prayed for his well-being and recovery during his two month stay at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Visitation and service will be held Monday November 4, 2024, at Trinity by the River Methodist Church, 602 Turner McCall Boulevard, Rome, Georgia. Visitation in Mobley Hall from 9:30-11:00 am and service at 11:00 am. Members of the Joe Tarpley Fellowship Class and the Exchange Club of Rome will serve as honorary pallbearers for the service.
