Mary Cumming Johnson, age 89, died peacefully on July 18, 2020, after an extended illness. Mrs. Johnson was born may 6, 1931, in Rome, to the late Corrie Virginia Cumming and the late John Freeman Cumming. She was also preceded in death by her husband Frederick Ross Johnson, Jr, and by her sister, Georgia Cumming Hardwick and her brother, John Freeman Cumming, Jr.
Mrs. Johnson grew up in Rome. She attended Mary Baldwin University and The University of Alabama. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Rome. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, antiquing, and many different types of needlework.
She is survived by her son, Frederick Ross Johnson, III, (Karen), Rome, her daughter, Corrie Johnson McDowell, Johns Creek, Ga; 5 grandchildren, Michael Harrison York, Jr, (Taylor), Frederick Ross Johnson, IV, Jacquelyn Johnson Jackson (Ben), Lauren McDowell Moultrie (John) and Robert Charles McDowell (Mary Alice), and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Seven Hills Place and Heyman Hospice.
There will be a private family graveside service on Sunday, August 2, 2020 that will be livestreamed at 2:00 p.m. on Daniel's Funeral Home Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials to the Ministers Discretionary Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Rome, 101 East 3rd Ave, Rome, Ga. 30161.
