Mrs. Knowles was born in Rome on November 1, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Sybol Hester Smith. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Smith.
Mrs. Knowles was associated with Attorney Jackson B. Harris as a legal secretary and also worked at the Daily Tribune News in Cartersville. She was a member of the Desoto Park Baptist Church and a former member of the Georgia Association of Legal Secretaries.
Survivors include her husband, Charles B. Knowles, to whom she was married August 8, 1964; one son, Dan Knowles (chief of Bartow County Campus Police) and his wife, Vicky, Cartersville; three granddaughters, Ashley Camp, and Amber and Erin Knowles; one great granddaughter, Amelia Camp; two brothers, Therian Smith, Rome, and Jerry Smith, and his wife, Darlene, Rome; one sister, Rhonelda Pyles, and her husband, Jimmy, Chattanooga, TN; and 40 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home, Rome, GA, with Dr. Lamar Barden officiating. Interment will be in the East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lee Pyles, Eric Pyles, Chris Smith, Robbie Quick, Richie Quick and Barry Quick. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday, May 8, 2011, from 6 until 9 p.m. At other hours, they are at the residence.
