Jim was born January 1, 1942, in Elberton, Georgia, the son of Charles Joseph and Katherine B. Yeary. He is survived by his wife Frieda C. Yeary and his son Joseph Knox Yeary; grandsons Justin Knox Yeary and Sean Patrick Yeary; and his sister Katherine Y. Scott (Jay) and nephews Bryan Madden and Hutton Madden (Marian) and niece Katherine Scott.
Jim graduated from The University of the South in 1964 and The School of Theology, The University of the South, in 1969. He received his Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1989 from the School of Theology, The University of the South. As a loyal son of Sewanee, Jim served terms as Trustee and Regent of the University. He was also inducted into the Sewanee Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
As an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Atlanta, Jim served at: St. Peter’s, Rome, GA; the Church of the Ascension, LaFayette, LA; St. Mathias, Toccoa, GA; St. Mark’s, LaGrange, GA; Emmanuel Church, Athens, GA; and the Cathedral of St. Phillip, Atlanta, GA.
Funeral services and reception were held Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Rome, GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the memorial fund at St. Peter’s Church; Mikell Camp and Conference Center, Toccoa, GA; and the School of Theology, The University of the South, Sewanee, TN.
