Mr. Dobbs was born in Guntersville, AL December 3, 1932, and was the son of the late Edward and Tula Mae Dobbs. After serving two years in the United States Navy, in 1957 Mr. Dobbs was hired as one of the first crew at Georgia Kraft, (now International Paper) where he retired after forty two years of service. He was faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon. He enjoyed participating in building projects through his church fellowship throughout the community. Mr. Dobbs was an avid golfer throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Etta Dean Rains Dobbs of Rome; two daughters, Kelley Burnett and Kim Watson (Mike); a granddaughter, Shanah Bo Sommerville (Ryan); two great-granddaughters, Ella and Olivia Hoyt; two brothers, John Dobbs and Welch Dobbs (Wanda). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family received friends Friday April 24, 2015 at Fellowship Baptist Church from 12 pm until 1:30 pm. A funeral service then followed at 2:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Dale Levan (pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church) and Rev. Bob Skelton (pastor emeritus of Fellowship Baptist Church) officiating. A private interment was held after the service.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Freddie Dobbs, Greg Dobbs, Mark Thompson, Drew Burnett, and Mike Watson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Mr. and Mrs. Dobbs Sunday school class.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 314 Burnett Ferry Road, Rome, GA 30165 and/or Heyman Hospice, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162.
