Herschel Warren Bridges entered peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May, 15 2024 at the age of 84. Herschel was born and raised in Kingston GA where he was a longtime member of Barnsley Methodist Church. It was there in 1959 where he married the love of his life, Phyllias, staying together until death parted them after 63 years. Herschel and Phyllias faithfully raised two sons. He and his family were active members of their church community wherever the Lord led them, starting in Cobb County, then Gwinnett and Putnam county before returning to the Rome area where he is currently a member of Mizpah Methodist Church. Herschel was a dedicated and hard worker; he spent most of his life working in the transportation and distribution industry. Although, all who knew him would tell you that his favorite job was being a Paw Paw to his three granddaughters and eventually 8 great grandchildren. Herschel loved to fish, garden and was an avid Braves fan his whole life. Herschel often took his family and friends on fishing trips to Steinhatchee, Florida where many fishing tall tales and family legends were born. He loved to spend his time outside in the garden where he tended to many types of flowers, tomatoes and vegetables. His grandchildren and great grandchildren would often find him outside in his chair or swing always open for company and good conversation.
Herschel is predeceased by his parents Roy and Mary Ella Brown and his wife Phyllias. He is survived by his sons ; Tony ( Leslie) , Mark ( Kari), Granddaughters Katelyn (Daniel) , Zadie (Robby), Alexus ( Jamie ) and great grandchildren Deacon, Merit, Jack, Jonah, Eli, Isaac, Jeremiah and Leeloo. He is also survived by his sister Patricia (Bobby) of Rome GA. Herschel was loved greatly and will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a visitation on Friday, May 17, 2024 from six until eight o’clock in the evening at Daniels Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Barnsley United Methodist Church, 141 Barnsley Church Rd, Kingston, GA 30145. A burial will immediately follow at Barnsley United Methodist Church cemetery.
