A native of Rome, Mrs. Murdock was born January 5, 1927 the daughter of the late Donald and Mabel Beard. Mrs. Murdock was retired from Berry College where she worked as assistant to the director of the Krannert Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert A. Murdock Sr., her parents, brother Eugene Beard, and a son in law Richard C. McLean.
Mrs. Murdock was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She was beautiful, gracious, kind, fun-loving and had a wit that made everyone happy,
She was a charter member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church where she served in many roles. She was devoted to her church and her large extended family. Time spent with family and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow was the highlight of her days.
She met and married the love of her life, Robert Murdock, whom she met at a high school football game where she was a majorette and he was home on leave from World War II. She leaves behind a loving sister Beverly Beard Chandler, three children, Robert Murdock Jr., (Candace), Michael Murdock, and Marilyn Murdock McLean. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, Lydia Gray (Andy), Mellany Murdock, Laura Kelley (Ryan), Holly Murdock Beattie (Mark), Julie McCallum (Corey), Kelsea Murdock Fonceca (Noe), Robbie Murdock (Kailey), Keith Murdock, Mallory Murdock, Mariah Murdock, Alyssa Murdock (Daniel), Ben Murdock, Logan Murdock, Mariah McLean Lightner (Keith), Dani McLean Cleckler (Nick), Nikki McLean Smith (Michael), 19 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Garden Lakes Baptist Church with the Reverends Dr. Jimmy Gentry and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. The family received friends at 1 p.m. the hour before the funeral. At other hours the family may be contacted at the daughters residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Garden Lakes Baptist Church building fund, 2200 Redmond Circle NW, Rome.
