Mrs. Dorothy Hancock Stevens, age 94, passed April 14, 2023 at Floyd Medical Center. She was born Feb. 27, 1929 to the late Annie Belle Harbuck and William Ector Hancock Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Lee Stevens, Jr., to whom she was married for 69 years, her sister Lyndall H. Bush, her brother William E. Hancock, Jr. and her sister-in-law Jackie S. Polak.
Mrs. Stevens graduated from Parrott High School in 1946. She earned her nursing degree from Grady Hospital School of Nursing in 1949 and completed her post-graduate studies in Surgery at Charity Hospital. She worked as an Operating Room nurse at Floyd Medical Center and as Industrial Nurse at General Electric Co.
She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class, where she served as President. Mrs. Stevens was a Girl Scout troop leader and a member and past president of P.E.O Chapter E. She volunteered with the Floyd Medical Center Auxiliary, having served as President, District Director and Gift Shop Assistant Manager and Buyer.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by her daughter Linda Stevens Albrecht (Jon) and her son Charles Edward Stevens (Stephanie Hunt); her grandchildren Natalie Alexandra Albrecht, Rosemary Dawn Albrecht McKissick and Christy Lynn Albrecht and Theresa Merritt Stevens, Mark Thomas Stevens, James Lee Stevens and Spruell Hancock Stevens; her nieces Susan T. Seufert (Ken), Mary P. Sottilare (Mike), Elizabeth P. English (John); and nephew Michael Bush.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Rome, GA on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, with receiving at 1:30 p.m. and services at 2:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
