Don was born in Cedartown, Georgia, on January 19, 1935, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Rome High School, Class of 1953, and served in the U. S. Army stationed in Germany from 1957-59.
After serving his country, he returned to Rome and continued his earlier career with the Rome News-Tribune, after which he joined the staff at Sears Roebuck, retiring with 40 plus years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lawrence and Lillie Mae Snider and a brother, Charles Edward Snider.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter, Susan Vincent and her husband Randy, of Rome. Other survivors include his companion, Norma Brumbelow and many “adopted in love” children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren including Melissa and Jeremiah Veillon and their children, David, Micah, Malachi and Daniel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Thacker officiating and Jeremiah Veillon providing the eulogy. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the Honor Guard of the American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 providing military honors.
Pallbearers will include Jeremiah Veillon, Micah Veillon, David Veillon, Buddy Parris, Kerry Gordon and Ed Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be Sears Roebuck retirees.
