David Barron Covington passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022 at the age of 65 in his hometown of Rome, Ga. A life cut too short. Trying his best, striving to be a better person, a better father, brother, and friend epitomizes who he was his entire life. Way to go, "Davey Dawg" - you competed well, you finished the race and you kept the faith!
David met the love of his life, Jeannette Chidsey, while attending Darlington School in Rome. Together they had four children. The light in David Covington and all that truly mattered to him will continue to shine through his family: son William (Liz) and their children - Mason (7), Adalyn & Olivia (5) - identical twins, son Michael (Lori) and their children - Charlotte (17mos) plus a much anticipated Boy Covington (middle name to be Barron, after David and Michael) due in November, daughter Sarah (John) and their children - Oxford (7), Poppy (5), and youngest son Truman (Allie). David will live on because there are aspects of him in each of his children - a quick, wry wit, sharp intellect, and musical prowess.
Music was ever present in David's life. He was a gifted guitarist and songwriter who could often be found playing at his favorite Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. David was a gentle soul with a steel trap mind. Gatherings at David's were always yummy affairs, he loved to cook and to love us, by feeding us. David's generosity spilled out in the best of ways. David was a consummate problem solver - always renovating the homes he lived in. (*just ask his family who were often his CREW!)
His last corporate job was as Vice President for Aon Consulting from which he retired at 49 to pursue being a 'gentleman farmer'. Oh boy, what was he thinking? He was thinking Grandchildren! And yes, they came.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Peace and Dean Covington, brothers Dean Jr. and Bill. David is survived by brothers, Bob (Carol) Atlanta, Richard (Adrienne) France, and sister, Barbara (Steve) Vermont plus multiple nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 5 - 2p.m. at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Rome, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Salvation Army of Rome.
