Mrs. Milner was born May 26, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia daughter of the late Byron Brooke and Georgia Burt Brooke. Mrs. Milner was highly active in the Rome community as a sustaining member of the Junior Service League, past president of the Mountain View Garden Club; past Regent of the Xavier Chapter of the DAR; and member of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 59 years, she was active on the Congregational Care Committee and the Women of the Church. Mrs. Milner was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family and friends. She loved her flowers and was an avid gardener, but most importantly she was loved and respected by all who knew her.
She attended North Avenue Presbyterian School in Atlanta where she was Miss NAPS, President of the Student Body, and May Queen. Mrs. Milner was a graduate of Agnes Scott College.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 59 years Jim Milner, daughter and son-in-law, Brooke Cornwell and husband Steve, Charlotte, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brad Milner and his wife Carolyn, Atlanta, and Cliff Milner and his wife Patricia, Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Lee Cornwell, Allison Moss, James Milner, Glenn Milner, Scott Milner and Carson Milner, one great grandchild, Parker Moss; sister, Mary Brooke DeLoache of Atlanta; and a number of nephews.
A memorial service was held Monday at 10 AM at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Chadwick and Rev Wayne Niederhuth officiating. The family received friends following the service in the King Hall of First Presbyterian Church.
Honorary pallbearers included: Dr. Bill Allen, Dr. Sid Bell, Dr. Ed Brewster, Ken Hancock, Lee Harrell, Jim Holcombe, Charles Hight, Bob Horsley, Dr. Hobart Hortman, Bill Johns, Vance Luke, Benton McKenzie, Dr. Toby Morgan, Billy Primm, Rivers Roser, Allen Storey, and Harold Storey.
The family respectfully asked in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 101 East 3rd Avenue, Rome, GA 30161.
