Albert William “Bill” Richardson, Jr., age 92, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at a local hospital. Born in Gainesville, Georgia on January 29, 1930, to the late Albert William Richardson and the late Ollie Beatrice Wilhite Richardson, he graduated from Gainesville High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
In his retirement Bill enjoyed fishing, cooking, rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs, and watching and playing golf. He won a prize from the Valdosta Daily Times Cookbook Contest for his clay pot meatloaf recipe in the 1980s and worked as a chef at Café South in Milledgeville during the time he lived at Lake Sinclair. He worked as a starter/ranger at the Amelia Island Plantation for several years and played many rounds of golf there. He loved to tell the story of hitting a hole-in-one on #15 of the Ocean Links course.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister Betty Richardson Palmer, his first wife Dory Reed Richardson and his second wife of thirty-six years, Mittie Ree Twilley Richardson.
He is survived by three daughters, Peggy Peek of Satellite Beach, Florida, Kathryn Aultman (Max Fundom) of Lake Sinclair, Georgia, and Margaret Beacham (Frank) of Rome, Georgia; three sons, James “Buck” Aultman (Kathy) of Tifton, Georgia, Robert Aultman (Roxanne) of Milledgeville, Georgia, and Tony Mooney of Amelia Island, Florida; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the many kind employees at The Spires at Berry College, and in particular for Bill’s favorites, Damiya and Tammy.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, the family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the cremation.
