Bill was my first real love and first husband.  He was one of the wittiest people I ever knew and truly knew how to show love and affection.  He was absolutely one of a kind and I continue to think of him often..

The Missouri Jaycees and Missouri JCI Senate send condolences to the Mayes family.  Bill was a Past President of the Belton, MO Jaycees and a Past President of the Missouri Jaycees. He was also US JCI Senator #36414.

Whenever I saw Bill, would smile and call me Sadie. Now, the rest of the story:
One day i shared that I have a hard time remembering names, even my own! I had met a woman; her name was Sandy and I asked her for her name the following week. The next time I saw Bill, he called me Sadie. I thought he was teasing me about not remembering my name. I did not correct him. This went on for a long time. One day he heard someone call my name. We laughed about our misunderstanding! He never called me Sandy. He would always greet me with "Hi Sadie!" I will always be Sadie when I think of him! So grateful God placed him in my journey! Until we meet again! Prayers of comfort and strength to family and friends.

Bill would always say someone else is experiencing something worse than you are, so get over it by helping someone else 😊May GOD bless you and family. Love you Brother 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Bill was an honorable Navy SEAL hero. He put his life on the line so we could be free in our beloved country. My wife Waynette and I stayed with him and Stevette this last September and had a great time talking about old times. Bill showed us a bunch of the pictures he took and had printed on canvas, magnificent! What a talented young man he was. We will miss him, God Bless.

I'll never forget when Bill looked me in the eye and said, "You are doing just fine.  Don't worry about the sanity part that comes about the 15th year".  We both laughed because we knew that even at the 15th year I wouldn't be sane.   He was a "Good" man.  I am honored to have been able to call him friend and a brother in Christ.  I love you,

I really loved Bill. He was always kind to me and I admired his journey. I liked seeing him and Stevette in his yellow mustang. When they walked into a room together their smiles were so powerful to me. Full of love and life! I  am keeping his family in my heart, most of all Stevette.

Bill & I graduated together in Gallatin. He was always a good friend & I enjoyed talking to him. My heart goes out to the family, he will be missed.

One of the greats! God blessed me, and many others  in the rooms, when he sent you to us. You saved me from myself more times then I can count. You would show up on my doorstep uninvited with a big grin ready to take me to a meeting or meet with another woman in recovery. You taught me to love myself when I could not, that boundaries were essential, and grace abundant. Your knowledge and humor will forever be with me. May you rest in peace knowing you lived life to the fullest, as you always said “I’ve never seen a hearse pulling a uhaul.”
