Herman Lloyd Hoppe, 78, of Rogers, Arkansas, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at NW Medical Center, Bentonville. He was born July 21, 1933 in Borger, TX to Herman and Mary Hoppe. He graduated from Rogers High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in the 6th Armored Division. He attended the University of Oklahoma and received his degree in Vocational Education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Herman married Mary Ann Searles on Aug. 18, 1956 in Norman, OK. He worked for Phillips Petroleum in Borger and Odessa, TX. He then taught Vocational Auto mechanics at Odessa High School for 20 years. He and Mary Ann retired from teaching and traveled seeing all 50 US states and provinces of Canada.
He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Rogers. He loved God and his family and enjoyed sharing the fruits and vegetables from his garden (along with his homemade wine). He also enjoyed traveling and antique tractor restoration. He was a member of Tired Iron of the Ozarks and a member of Flower, Garden and Nature Society of Northwest Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of the home, daughter Debra, son-in-law Michael and grandson Max Niemann of Lake Jackson, TX; daughter Diane and granddaughter Katie Puckett of Rogers, AR and granddaughter Sally Puckett of Bedford, TX, sisters Louise Green, Josephine Nail and Jackie Mahurian of Borger, TX, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. His parents and his sister, Ethel McMillan, preceded him in death.
Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home and the service will be at First United Methodist Church of Rogers at 11:00, Thursday, September 1, 2011. Visitation will precede the services from 10:00 till 11:00. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 307 W. Elm Street, Rogers, AR 72756.
