Jack A. Warshaw

He attended Boston Latin School and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1939. In 1942 he enlisted as a private in the Army and was discharged with a rank of sergeant in 1946.

Following his military service, he resumed employment with the Selective Service, where he had begun working in 1940. He joined the Office of Veterans reemployment Rights, which was later incorporated into the Department of Labor. From that point, he embarked on a 50 year long career of promoting workplace justice. For over 30 years he worked for the Department of Labor, which earned him both the respect of people in and out of the government and enormous personal satisfaction. His trajectory in government service began with the position of assistant messenger at nineteen years old and ended with his retirement in 1979 from the post of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for labor-management relations. In 1967 he was detailed to the Presidential Commission on Postal Reorganization, serving under President Johnson.

Following his retirement from the Labor Department, he served for over 20 years as a labor arbitrator, widely sought after by representatives on both labor and management sides for his absolute dedication to fairness. It was this characteristic fairness and respectful consideration which earned him the gratitude of even the parties whose claims he decided against.

He is survived by Ruth Warshaw, his loving wife of sixty-four years, his daughter, Eileen Ivey Sirota, and son-in-law Leonard Sirota, by one sister, Marcia Feinberg of Providence, RI, and by one beloved grand-daughter, Rachel Sirota, and her husband, James Hoenstine. Mr. Warshaw will also be fondly remembered by seven nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 9 - 2 PM at Adat Shalom Reconstructionist Congregation 7727 Persimmon Tree Lane, Bethesda MD. Interment to follow at Judean Memorial Gardens, Olney, MD. The family will receive friends immediately following the interment, Saturday evening at 7:30 PM for Minyan, and then Sunday from 1 - 4 PM at the Sirota residence.
