Lt. Col Guay was involved in critical Air Force operations during his 26-year career in the Air Force, including flying the B-29 for 30 missions over Tokyo and countryside of Japan during WWII. He took part in flying the final mission over Japan before Japan surrendered. While not in country, he also participated in activities related to the Vietnam conflict and Cuban missile crisis.
He participated in surveillance work, flying the border of Russia. He took pride that he was offered a position with the CIA flying with the U2 program.
After his military career he started to work with American Flyers Charter airline in Ardmore, OK and then transferred to Harrisburg, PA. He decided he needed more time at home, he changed careers and went to work for Fulton bank as a loan officer. Eventually retiring from that job. During that period, he became a CFI (certified flight instructor) and was eventually awarded a prestigious award from the FAA, the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award where he contributed and maintained safe flight operations for 50 years or more consecutive years.
He was married to Arlene for 72 years and raised 3 children Philip, Allison, and Larry, as well as raising two grandchildren. He had 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation gathering will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 S US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
