Nick was born on April 12, 1930, in Syracuse, New York to the late Madeline and Mike Scocchera.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Lorraine (Parise) of Wilkes-Barre, PA. and by his son Michael (Susan) of Merritt Island, Fl.
A 6-year Navy Veteran, Electrician 3rd Class (1947 Reserves, 1952 Active Duty), Nick and Lorraine moved to Florida in 1957 where Nick worked in Logistics at the Space Center (General Electric and U.S. Space Boosters). Along the way, he owned The Sausage Hut on Merritt Island with longtime family friend, Joe Zinzi. Afterwards, he continued to make sausage for friends and family. Nick also worked for many years post-retirement at Hobbs Pharmacy on Merritt Island delivering medicine and supplies. He helped form Little League for N. Merritt Island, and once served as Vice President of the PTO at Audubon Elementary School.
Nick enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went, whether it was at his bank (Chase), local breakfast place (The Pancake House), The Sunflower House, where he volunteered for many years, the barbershop, or Suttons pool store. He loved gambling, especially slots, and enjoyed telling fun jokes. He often wrote good ones down so he would not forget.
Nick is survived by his children, Mary (Eric), Leigh Ann (Steve), and Nick (Rita); sister, Virginia Scocchera of Syracuse, New York; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 20 2024 from 11am - 2pm at The Veterans Memorial Center (400 S Sykes Creek PKWY Merritt Island, FL 32952).
