It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elena Lumbuan Mira. Elena was born in Iloilo, Philippines and grew up in Zamboanga. She pursued a BS in Nursing from the Women’s University in Manila, became a Clinical Advisor in Zamboanga General Hospital, and a Vice Principal at the Bohol Provincial Hospital School of Nursing. She is remembered by her nursing students for her passion and dedication to enriching the lives of young Filipina women.
During her work in Zamboanga, she met the love of her life Fidel Mira with whom she had four children. To ensure better opportunities for her family, Elena bravely moved to multiple locations in the US, eventually settling in Chicago where she worked as a nurse in Grant Hospital and Cook County Hospital. It would be 10 years before she was finally reunited with her children and husband in the US.
Elena retired in 1996 and moved to Orlando, where she and Fidel loved to tend their backyard vegetable garden. Always restless, she bought the Palace Retirement Home in 2001 as a family business. She spent the rest of her life in Florida, cared for by her children and visited by her beloved family across the US and Canada.
In 2006, Elena was preceded in joining the Lord by her husband Fidel. She is survived by her children: Cheryl, Jane, Sandee, and Alvin; her sons/daughter-in-law Noel, Eric, and Cyndi; her beautiful grandchildren Neiman, Jeric, Chelsea, Kyle, Aidan, Kennedy, Alexis, Madison, Gavin, McKinley, and Noah.
A visitation for Elena will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955, with a wake service beginning at 6:30 PM. A funeral mass will take place the following day, Friday, November 15 at 12:00 PM at St Mary Catholic Church, 1136 Seminole Dr, Rockledge, FL 32955, with a short viewing at 11:30 AM.
