Edward A. Kelly, age 94, entered into eternal life peacefully April 20, 2018. He was born August 22, 1923, eldest son of former Congressman Edward Kelly and Rosemay Kelly in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Morgan Park Military Academy, Chicago, IL. Edward was an alumni of University of Notre Dame, South Bend Indiana, where he played halfback on the Varsity Football Team.
He enlisted in the Army 11th Airborne Division during World War II as a second Lieutenant. Edward married the love of his life, Betty Sexton-Kelly (deceased) and moved to Miami, FL in 1945. They were married for 56 years. He was an agent of the FBI, a banking president, an honorary Chief of the Miami Fire Dept. and belonged to many charitable organizations and social clubs.
Upon retiring in 1990, he moved to Suntree, FL. He became an honorary Chief of the Brevard Fire Dept., past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (6yrs), a Master of Ceremonies for John Barry Day, a Grand Marshall of St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Melbourne, an honorary Grand Marshall and to all his neighbors he was known as “the mayor of Silver Lake.” He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association and a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association of America. Ed’s love for God, his family, his country and community were evident to all who knew him.
Edward is survived by daughters Margaret Kelly and Naidiene Reynolds, sister Rosemary Morrisey (Edward), grandchildren Robert, Jennifer, Kelly and Erin, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Edward A. Kelly Jr. and his daughter Elizabeth Kelly-Jones.
A memorial service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11am.
Military honors will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 2:30pm.
