The man I am; is a a direct result of a Loving God and my parents, Ed and Marilyn Flynn.

Gianna & Noelle may not have gotten much time with great grandpa but the time they did have they cherished. They always loved FaceTiming and enjoyed their visit to great grandpas house in Florida. He will be forever missed💕

Dear Grandpa,

You will be forever missed. You're the only grandfather I ever had and I couldn't dream of a better one. I will never forget you and Giovanni sitting together in the den watching tv together as best pals. We love you and will think of you always.

Uncle Eddie found the perfect shirts for the occasion!  I'm so glad I was able to visit with him every time we were in FL (which was a lot!)  He always made me laugh with his corny jokes.  I will miss him!

Grandpa was a great man and an even better grandfather. My earliest memory of him is when he would share his cherries from his drinks with me. To this day, I can’t have a cherry without thinking of him.

Never easy to lose a 'larger than life' member of a family; especially one that had such a direct and positive effect on so many of us.  It takes a tough man to be a Marine and a NYC Detective, and an even tougher one to be a gentleman.  Eddie Flynn was all of that, wrapped in NY Irish charm.  He wouldn't tell me what the 'secret ingredient' was in his famous Manhattan cocktail, but I suspect it was the love he had for everyone in his family.  Missed, but never forgotten, fair winds and following seas Marine.

I will always treasure the memory of my grandpa and all the memories we made together. He shaped my outlook on life more than I realized growing up. I feel truly lucky to have had him in my life. Rest in Eternal Peace, “Grandpa Flynn.” 

Uncle Eddie was a class act who loved his family most of all. There was always going to be a good time had whenever he was around. We miss you!

Grandpa was always so proud of his grandkids. I remember one summer we would wake up early every morning so he could teach me to properly swim right before I became a florida kid. He always had quick wit, and could make the whole room laugh. We miss you! 

I will always remember the times Uncle Eddie would visit New York to see my Grandparents. He would come in for a special occasion such as their anniversary parties but other times to just visit them. You can tell how much he revered them by how kindly he treated and spoke to them. He loved trying to prove that Nixon was a better president than Truman much to my Grandfather’s chagrin. Visits to Florida as a kid included visits to their homes where lots of laughter and arguments about the Mets and Yankees ensued. Tasting glasses of Whiskey Sours were all were allowed to be served along with a promise of a full glass. I’ll have a full glass in his honor sometime soon.


Grandpa loved his grandkids. He showed it through mystery bus rides, teasing, and mailed envelopes of newspaper articles about alligator attacks. He was proud of all of us and kind to us. We will miss him. 

This is one of my favorite photos with my Uncle Eddie. It brings me back to my childhood when he allowed us kids to have a taste of his famous whiskey sours in a cordial glass at the holidays. In this photo I am an adult and finally got his magic elixir served to me in an actual whiskey sour glass.

My Uncle Eddie was larger than life and such a huge part of my existence. I looked upon him as my second father as he was a huge presence in my life in joyous times and difficult ones.

I love that Craig and my kids loved him as much as I did.  He was a character but he was “our character”!

I remember staying with them for a week when my kids were little. Aunt Marilyn warned me that if I liked what was on television to not express it  because as soon as you did Uncle Eddie would change the channel!  We thought she was kidding and so we tested it out and for a week no matter what was on the tv one of us would say oh that’s a good show — and “click” he’d change the channel!  It cracked us up and only he could get away with doing it.  We were honored that week that he allowed us to sit in his recliner chair but the remote — well that was his alone!

I spent countless hours with Uncle Eddie and Aunt Marilyn, Kathy, Patrick and Timmy taking rides in his station wagon with the back window rolled all the way down and vying for who would get to sit on the bench seat close to the window.  We never actually knew where we were going but when I think back at it now the ride there in that station wagon with him at the wheel was the best part of the day.

I used to love to listen to him chat about the Birkenas girls and their antics in a way that only he could do.

He was a character for sure but he was our character and I find it hard to imagine him not being around for the next family occasion. But I know we will meet again someday.  Know how much I loved you Uncle Eddie. Rest in peace my favorite Irishman!



Eddie was one of the greatest people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing in my life, a genuine nice guy. He was also quite the character. About 10 years ago, Denise and I went to Daytona for her cousin Karen’s wedding. Eddie thought it was a good idea for he and I and Uncle Jack to go in “formal” attire so off we went to the Daytona flea market to get tuxedo tee shirts to wear to the festivities. It was actually the most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn to a wedding and everyone thought it was very funny. I still have mine and will lovingly remember Eddie when I see it. 

Rest In Peace Uncle Eddie you will be greatly missed.
