Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Graveside funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Island.
Eleanor was born in Sylvia, KS on July 6, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Lena (Nusser) Miller. She was the beloved wife of the late Lew Senske. She was a 1944 graduate of Sylvia High School, and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Omaha University.
Eleanor’s teaching career began in a rural one room school house in Reno County, KS. She attended Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, KS, where one Sunday morning the new school principal, Lew Senske, was introduced to the congregation. Eleanor immediately informed her mother that she was going to marry Mr. Senske. She received a teaching position in that new school, and married Lew Senske on Christmas Day, 1948.
Her teaching career spanned 51 years in Hutchinson, KS, Omaha, NE, and Rock Island at Edison Junior High School. Upon Retirement, she continued to serve as a substitute teacher in the Rock Island Public School System, and voluntarily made and delivered countless cookies as a treat for the children at Immanuel Lutheran School. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. She moved to Cincinnati, OH in 2010 to be with her children.
Those left to honor her memory include loving children Rebecca Senske and David Senske (partner, Eefje Hagendoorn); beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Ramstetter, Deirdra Senske, and Sean Senske; loving siblings, Geneva Persinger, Lawrence (Carol) Miller, Leon (Sherry) Miller, Ruth Miller, and Ester Smith.
In addition to her husband, her parents, and siblings, Allen Miller and Phyllis Albrecht, preceded Mrs. Senske in death.
