William J. (Bill) Schneider Sr. "Pappy", age 101, of Raccoon Twp., formerly of Monaca, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022. William was born January 27, 1921, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Meiter) Schneider.
Bill was a WWII Veteran and served as Corporal in the 310th Infantry Regiment, 78th Lightning Division of the U.S. Army. Having spent 15 months in Europe, where he was involved with 'The Battle of the Bulge', he was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for his entrance into the Rhineland with the First Battalion to cross the Remagen Bridge. He also received the Infantry Combat Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, and Four Battle Stars. He was a 1939 graduate of Monaca High School, and was employed for 40 years at St. Joe Lead Corp as a pipefitter and welder. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, making countless trips with his family to Canada and his camp in McKean County. He also enjoyed working on cars in his spare time and continued an active lifestyle up until his death.
Bill is survived by two sons, William (Robin) Jr Schneider of Darlington, PA, Terry (Ginny) Schneider of Raccoon Twp. PA, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, longtime love and special companion Olga Simoni, and special canine friend Babe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Heather Schneider and three sisters: Mary Adamak, Anna Dorsey and Sarah “Marg” Cartwright.
As per Bill’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements were provided by SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Monaca, PA. Donations in Bill’s name may be made to any organization of choice.
