George J. Rossick, 93, of Daugherty Township, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. George was born on August 20, 1924 in Larksville, PA son of the late George Joseph and Anna Cecelia (Jorda) Rossick. He spent his youth at 11William Street in Edwardsville, PA; graduating from Edwardsville High School, Class of 1942. He was awarded a scholarship to attend Temple University but the war started and George proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Force during WWII from 1942-1946.
Following his honorable discharge he attended barber school and also became a bricklayer. He married the love of his life: Mary Copak on May 20, 1950 at St. George’s Byzantine Greek Catholic Church, West Aliquippa. For a time, George was a barber in Larksville and then in Ambridge. He eventually went to work in the North Mill of Jones and Laughlin Steel, Aliquippa Works were he was a Rigger and in General Maintenance for over 30 years. Later in life George worked at the Beaver County Court House as a Tip Staff.
For over 40 years he served as a Daugherty Township Supervisor and was proud to serve in such an exemplary manner that taxes were never increased during his tenure. Among his personal passions was gardening, always sharing his harvest with family and friends. He was a people person and enjoyed all activities where there was a gathering. He enjoyed talking with anyone he had the privilege to meet. George was a good cook and had a beautiful singing voice. He loved to dance; and was a fun loving, hardworking family man who never missed any family activity that his children or grandchildren participated in. He was a member of Holy Family Church, New Brighton (formerly SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church). George was a member of the church choir and Holy Name Society.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years: Mary (Copak) Rossick on February 25, 2016; four brothers: John “Jake”, Joseph, William and Michael; a daughter-in-law: Kathy Lynn (Lezanic) Rossick.
George is survived by two children: Joyce Ann Wasik, Daugherty Township; George Joseph Rossick, Middletown, MD; six grandchildren: Valerie (Alan) Jurich, Chippewa Township; George (Erica) Wasik, Verona; Anna (Jesse) Sullivan, New Brighton; George J. Rossick, State College; Katelyn (Austin) Rossick, Middletown, MD; Chelsea Rossick, Indianapolis, IN; three great grandchildren: Kaelyn Mackenzie, Alan David and Cade Anthony.
Friends will be received, Monday, June 11, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Holy Family Parish, 525, 7th Avenue, New Brighton with Fr. Tom Kredel, celebrant. The public is respectfully asked to arrive directly at the church on Tuesday morning.
Military Honors will be presented by members of the Beaver County Special Unit 10:45 Tuesday, at the Church. Private entombment will follow in the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum. On line condolences may be offered at www.saul-gabauer.com
