She was born October 8, 1921 in Monaca, PA, daughter of the late Joseph Christian Stein and Mary Elizabeth Ramer Stein. Caroline proudly served her country as a WAVE with the U.S. Navy. She was a chaplain’s assistant and also served in the machine shop. Caroline tragically lost her first husband, Steve J. Salters, who died in service during WWII in August of 1944.

A woman of faith, she has been a member or attended Beulah Baptist Church, New Brighton; the Cannelton Baptist Church, Darlington; Faith Baptist Church, Blairsville, GA and Cornerstone Baptist Church, Windsor, CO. Her love for the Lord, and children, often inspired her to serve on the Child Evangelism Fellowship Teams.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Caroline was preceded by her husband of 60 years: James Hobby in 2006; her son-in-law: David Black; her brother: Martin Stein; and her sister: Margaret Kalcevic.
Caroline is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: James “Rusty” Hobby, Portland, OR; David (Rebecca) Hobby, Murphy, NC; Martin (Sally) Hobby, Springfield, OH; two daughters and a son-in-law: Joyce Black, Windsor, CO, with whom she resided; Grace (Tim) Manzewitsch, New Brighton; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
