Born on April 12, 1937, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Gordon and Jane Dear, Richard led a life of service, dedication, and passion. Richard attended Rochester High School before serving his country as a medical specialist in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he retired from Pontiac Motors and later worked for Stoney Creek Metro Park, where he contributed to the community and natural spaces he cherished.
An avid marksman, Richard was known for his skills as a competitive shooter, gun builder, and sharp shooter. He enjoyed taking guns apart, rebuilding them, and perfecting his craft. He was proud member of the North Macomb Sportsman Club and served as the Exalted Ruler of the North Oakland Elks Club. Richard's faith was a central part of his life. He was a devoted member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, where he found strength and fellowship.
He is survived by his nephews Richard (Judith) Prewitt, Mark (Nanette) Bronersky, and Michael Murray, and his grandchildren Sarah Noell and Robert Noell. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorene and her daughter Gayle.
A memorial service for Richard will be held at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr., Rochester, MI, 48307 on Friday, December 6, 2024. Visitation will begin at 4:00pm, followed by the 6:00pm memorial service.
