The Lattimore family is sad to announce the recent passing of Nina B. Lattimore. At the age of 97, she passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023 from the complications of pneumonia. Nina was born in Wellsburg, West Virginia to parents, Junellda and Lewis Cross. Predeceasing her were three brothers, Glenn, Gerald, and Jack. The Cross family moved to the Detroit area during the Great Depression.
Nina graduated from Denby high school in Detroit, and upon graduation was hired as a stenographer for the Detroit Plywood Company. She spent much of her spare time in northern Michigan with her family and friends. One of her favorite hobbies was horseback riding.
She married Wilbur Lattimore and had four children, Mark, David (Susan), Karen (Chris), and Scott (Julie). In addition to being a wonderful stay-at-home mom, she enjoyed gardening and golf.
As a grandmother, she was blessed with 9 grand children; Cameron, Karson, Courtney, Tyler, Spencer, Trenton, Corey, Brett and Joe. In her later years, she was blessed with 7 great-grandchildren; William, Matilda, James, Colette, Colin, Howl, and Luca.
Upon the sudden and tragic death of her husband, Nina became the sole owner of his prototype manufacturing entity, known as Lattimore and Tessmer, located in Southfield, Michigan. She was a female trailblazer in the automotive prototype business and became an inspiration to all. Her tenacity, business sense, and executive decision making made it a tremendously successful business for over 31 years. Upon retirement, she moved permanently to the Naples, Florida area, where she enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her favorite and beloved friend, James Haggerty.
Those who knew her remember her as a strong, fiercely independent woman, who lived life on her own terms. In her final years, she loved sitting on her balcony overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and greatly anticipated visits from family and friends. She had a deep commitment to staying in touch with friends and family, and will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a loyal friend.
