Michael Phillip Holcomb, age 80, of Rochester Hills, passed away Thursday January 21, 2021. Beloved husband of Alice Holcomb for 58 years. Loving father of Amy (Thomas) Griffin, John (Barbara) Holcomb, and Julie Hidalgo. Cherished grandfather of Michael Popovecz, TJ (Brooke) Griffin, Shelby Griffin, Hannah Griffin, Natalie Holcomb, Julia “J” Holcomb, Mia Hidalgo, Sydney Hidalgo, and great-granddaughter Kayleigh. Caring brother of Debbie (Michael) Cagwin. Michael was predeceased by his parents Robert and Vivian (Sierks) Holcomb and his siblings Patricia Peterson and Robert Holcomb.
Michael was born in Correctionville, Iowa on September 24th, 1940. He was raised in Souix City, Iowa and graduated high school there. Michael moved to Michigan to attend General Motors Institute of Technology (GMI), now Kettering in Flint Michigan. While cruising Woodward Ave, Michael met the love of his life, Alice Berriman, and they married on July 14th, 1962 at First Methodist Church in Royal Oak. Michael and Alice raised their family in Rochester Hills. Michael graduated GMI and worked 33 years at General Motors, serving as the expert accident reconstruction engineer for the company and throughout the country. He retired from GM at 49 and started his own accident reconstruction company. Michael loved his family most of all. He and Alice held Detroit Pistons season tickets for over 20 years. Michael also enjoyed cruising in his corvette and volunteering at the Concours D’Elegance car show at Meadow Brook Hall.
A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2021 by Michael’s family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online at www.alz.org.
