John was born the son of James and Sharron (McKeel) Buckert in Keokuk, Iowa on February 18, 1968. He graduated from Warsaw High School in Illinois, class of 1986. John met his wife Anne Bollwinkle while earning his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Bradley University. John and Anne were married on December 28th, 1991 at Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria, Illinois. John began his engineering career with EDS, Ford, and Lectron Products. He earned his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. John first practiced law with Dykema-Gossett and then Cantor-Colburn before opening the Buckert Patent & Trademark Law Firm. John was a member and elder of St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester.
John is survived by his wife Anne (Bollwinkle) Buckert; children Samantha (Samuel) Thompson and Jacquelyn Buckert; granddaughters Ellie and Charlie Thompson; siblings James (Pat) Buckert, Linda (Dale) Hazelhoff, Brenda Brown, Jeff (Jan) Buckert, and Lark (Allan) Nieboer; numerous nieces & nephews; and longtime friend Gene Mortensen.
He loved his family, friends, work, and his time at the family’s cabin in northern Michigan. He was loved by and will be missed by many.
John’s family will hold a visitation on Thursday July 25th, 2024 from 4-8pm at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester. A funeral service will be held on Friday July 26th at 11am (10am instate) at St. John Lutheran Church, located at 1011 University Drive in Rochester. Interment will follow at Van Hoosen Jones Cemetery in Rochester Hills.
