On November 24th, 2023, Michael Allen Magill (Mike), a long time Orem resident, passed away at the age of 75. He was surrounded by his Wife, Children, and many Grandchildren, holding onto him with love as he crossed the veil of this world. Michael was welcomed home by his granddaughter, Rebekah, his brother Sidney, and his parents, Sidney Moffit Magill, and Victoria Allen Magill.
Michael was born in McNary Arizona on St Patrick’s day, March 17th, 1948. He was the 3rd oldest child of 8 children. His family, in the early years, lived on ranches in both Arizona and New Mexico, but eventually settled in Roswell New Mexico, in 1957. Michael attended 3 Elementary schools, Yucca Middle School, and then graduated from Roswell High School in 1966. After graduating High School, Michael enlisted in the Army in 1967 as a draft was impending, and he wanted to choose his branch of Military. He served honorably in Vietnam, spending time on many Army bases during his service. He served as Military Intelligence, and obtained the rank of Sargeant (E5), and was noted as very bright, with great problem-solving skills. After returning from Vietnam, Michael enrolled at Eastern New Mexico University, Roswell Campus. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and met his wife Nancy at church, where they shared their first kiss at a stake dance. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1971.
After they were married, Michael and Nancy moved to Provo Utah, to attend Brigham Young University, where Michael pursued a degree in Engineering. After College, Michael and Nancy moved to Tucumcari New Mexico, where Michael began working for his father-in-law, who was a general contractor. He became highly skilled in many areas of construction, plumbing, painting, was a certified electrician, and all-around handyman.
Mike and Nancy returned to Utah with their first 4 children, and built a home in Orem, where they had 5 more children. Michael got a job working in the engineering department for Intermountain Healthcare Hospital in Provo, Utah. He remained a resident of Orem for the remainder of his life, and stayed employed with Intermountain Healthcare for 50 years, eventually becoming a maintenance engineer, until his health declined, and prevented him from continuing work. He was dedicated to coaching sports of any kind, and often debated about changing his major to become a PE Teacher, as he enjoyed spending the time with young people, and loved sports of all kinds. He coached many sports throughout the years, but most notably Fast Pitch Softball, and was a professionally recognized Umpire during many games and world series championships in the 80s.
He was a dedicated member of his faith, and held many callings within his church, but was the most devoted to his time spent with the scouts and Sunday school. He was a skilled outdoorsman, Scout Leader, Fisherman, and a driving force for many adventures for the youth in his congregation. He loved the lord, found peace in nature, and had a strong testimony of Christ, and what it means to be Christlike in serving others.
Michael passed at Huntsman Cancer institute, after a grueling battle with Esophageal Cancer. He is cherished even in death and will be fondly remembered as a prayerful Christlike man, Incredible Father, Brother, Uncle Mike, Scout Extraordinaire, Outdoorsman, the Ultimate Handyman, Mechanic, Coach, Referee, and BYU Sports Enthusiast. His absence is felt ineffably. We love you, Dad.
Michael is Survived by his wife Nancy, and 9 Children: Shawn (Autumn), Jared (Jessie), Holly (Ian), Casey, Spencer, Jacob (Kayla), Heidi (David), Heather, Haylee, and his 15 grandchildren (Johnathan, Victor, Joseph, Keira, Aiden, Ryann, Liam, Mercedes, Seth, Sophie, Tom, Ezra, Sawyer, Michael, Charlie), and one great granddaughter, (Hera).
