Russ and I finally crossed paths at Faith Viera Lutheran Church. We were both tenors however he said that in his earlier days he sang baritone. We had two regular opportunities to chat at church, one at choir practice and the other was weekly after the church service. Russ went to the 8 o’clock service and I to the 9:30 service, however, we would both ended up having coffee at the same time in the church meeting room. 

We seemed to have unknowingly nearly crossed paths as our careers led us through life, even though I growth up in Chicago and he is Elsinore. His military service saw him working overseas in Italy at the same time as I was working in Bavaria. We had military personnel come through our base because of the skirmishes between Turkey and Greece over Crete, possibly at the same time as his service in Crete. He worked the flight line at Luke Air force Base in Arizona a little earlier than I, as I retired in Sun City West, Arizona in the 90’s. I have relatives in Calimesa in the Inland Empire, as that part of SoCal is known as, which includes Elsinore. I worked on a space project at Lockheed where the optics were provided by Perkin-Elmer.

On a lessor note, we both suffered the loss of our spouses in the not too distant past. And finally, we both suffered from insomnia where a full night’s sleep was an uncommon gift.

Russ will be missed as a compatriot in life and a friend.

Russ was such a sweet person to know & talk with. He also had a strong Christian faith that he liked to share.  My husband, John & I sang in the choir together with Russ at Faith Viera Lutheran Church for several years. John & Russ sang in the Tenor section. Russ was also born in California like myself ( in Stockton, CA.). You don't meet many California natives in Florida. He was so kind to me with his words of faith & encouragement when I was having issues with  migraines and a broken left arm a couple of years ago. We were so blessed to know Russ! We know he is resting in the arms of Jesus!
