N. Jeanne Wentz died on Sunday, 28 June 2015 at Riverside, California. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 5770 Arlington Avenue, Riverside, California, at 10:30 AM. Pastor Debbie Sperry will officiate. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery at 9:30 AM on July 10, 2015. Family and friends are invited to attend.
Jeanne was the 8th child of 8, born on August 31, 1920 in Conway, Taylor Co., IA to Grace (Dugan) Miller and Porter Carr Miller. She was raised and received her early education in Taylor County, IA. She earned her teaching credential at Iowa State Teachers College in 1939. She earned her BA degree in education and her California Teaching Credential at Long Beach State College in 1960. She later attended Laverne University graduating in 1979 with a master’s a degree in Education.
On August 31, 1940 in Iowa City, Johnson Co., IA, she was united in marriage to Jacob George Wentz and two daughters were born to this union, Elma (Royal) Field and Julia (Daryl) Brock. Joanne Andre has also been a member of the family since 1974. Jacob George Wentz died in 1991.
Jeanne taught elementary school in Exira, IA for one year. She taught for 19 years in the Alvord Unified School District at Alvord Elementary School and Orrenmaa Elementary School. She and Jake traveled extensively over 4 continents. After Jake’s death, she continued to travel over 2 additional continents.
Jeanne was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church and an active member for 57 years: teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and supporting the missionary groups of the church. She was a member of Church Women United, and held every office at least once.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, (Paul, Jud and Jed) and four sisters (Garland, Mary, Mildred and Dorothy).
She is survived by Elma (Royal) Field of Denver, Julia (Daryl) Brock of Riverside, Joanne Andre of Riverside, grandson James (Megan) Field of Kansas, granddaughter Amy (Jonathan) Davis of New Jersey, great-grand daughter Gwendolyn Davis of New Jersey, numerous nieces and nephews, and their families.
