Mary Louise Roselle was born in Pontiac, Michigan on September 2, 1930. She and her twin sister, Margy were two of five daughters born to Arthur and Ruth Roselle. Mary and Margy were the middle sisters with Jeanne being the eldest and Joanne and Kathy the youngest of the 5.
When Mary was 16, her parents loaded up their car and moved the family from Michigan to Southern California. This must have been fate, as less than 10 year’s later it was where Mary was to meet her Soulmate Don, also from Michigan and who was stationed in Southern California with the Marine Corps. It was a stroke of luck that Mary and Don were both staying at the Clark Hotel in Los Angeles. Mary was working with Southern Bell Telephone Company and was on loan to the Los Angeles Office to train new girls and Don was staying at the hotel as a guest of the hotel owner’s son, who was a friend of his.
And the rest is history. They married less than a year later. They were blessed with three very special children — David, Sherry and Michele and they enjoyed almost 63 year’s of marriage together.
Mary loved shopping with her daughters, crocheting, doing WonderWord puzzles and listening to music on the PBS channel, along with taking trips to Hawaii with her husband, Don. Mary was very glamorous, stylish and was never without her lipstick or her hair perfectly coiffed. Her smile lit up a room and her blue eyes sparkled. She was a beautiful person, both inside and out.
Above all, Mary loved her family. She was always there to listen and to simply show she cared. She loved her husband, Don, and she and the family moved around the country with Don for multiple tours of duty. She also held the fort down at home while Don served his country in Vietnam and then later in Japan. It couldn’t have been easy for her, with 3 young children, but she managed it with grace and dignity.
Along with her sister’s Jeanne and Joanne, Mary also acted as a caregiver for her twin sister and for both her mother and father until their passing. She was selfless and giving and she performed these roles willingly.
All were privileged to have known her.
Don will remember her with much love as a most wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was not only his friend, but his soulmate.
