With profound sadness we announce the passing of Jerry, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all whose lives he touched, on February 24, 2021. He fought long and hard these last several years before passing under the care of hospice at his residence in Riverside, Ca. Jerry was born September 9, 1948 at Riverside Community hospital to the late William & Bertha Miller.
After his graduation from Ramona High School in 1967, Jerry joined the United States Marine Corp and served from 1968 – 1972. He earned his Associates Degree from Riverside Community College and then joined the Riverside Police Department in January of 1973. Over his twenty-three years of service to RPD, Jerry was a school resource officer, worked patrol and traffic, but was most known as *Motor 31* where he spent ten years as a motor officer. In 1989, Jerry was promoted to Special Agent where he worked undercover in various capacities for seven years before medically retiring in 1996.
Jerry had a big, blended family that included his loving wife, Shirley with whom he was married to for 36 years. He had three sons, Randy, Gerald and Eric and three daughters, Robin, Kari and Erin. One of his proudest roles in life was being a *Papa* to all of his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and was the light in their lives as well.
Jerry had a sense of adventure, a *need for speed * and loved to spend his younger days at the Parker Strip where he would show off his boat by speeding up and down the river. He loved to golf, jeep and ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He spent many years cruising Lake Havasu in his boat and loved to hang out with friends and family on the water.
To know Jerry means you had heard a story or two of his time as a police officer. He was so proud to share his experiences with anyone who wished to listen. He was a fair and levelheaded man, who could always see both sides of a story. He was patient and loving, he was calm and cool, he was understanding and accepting, he was our hero, husband, father, and papa. He will be greatly missed.
