James Dwain West, 65, died on March 10, 2012, with his family by his side in Riverside, CA. Dwain was born July 1, 1946 in Brownfield Texas to his parents Edith Palmer and James West. He spent the majority of his life in California.
Dwain graduated from Norte Vista High School in Riverside, CA in 1965 and Long Beach State University in 1972. He served in the US Army as an Army Ranger from 1966-1968. He was a general contractor and owned his own business, Dwain West Construction.
Dwain survived by his wife Barbara, who he loved for 9 years and married on August 14, 2010, his brother Michael West of Oceanside, his two children Justin West (Riverside) and Tessa Schellati (Brian) Port Chester, NY, his step-children Ashley Donnelly (Rob), Adam Jordan, Ryan Jordan all of Riverside and Amber Jordan of Santa Barbara, his dog Millie West and step-dog Chloe. He was an amazing father and husband and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Dwain was an active member of Harvest Christian Fellowship where he loved being a member of the Gospel Choir and Men’s Bible Study. He was avid joke-teller and known for his ability to bring fun to any party. Dwain enjoyed surfing, sailing, fishing, and lounging on the beach. As a young guy, he enjoyed racing down Magnolia Avenue in Riverside, CA in his 1962 black 356B Porsche, where he often got into trouble. His greatest moments were those spent with his family and friends. He was a warm and remarkably caring person and his biggest joy in life was watching the joys of others.
Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday March 17, 2012 @ 11:00 am at Harvest Christian Fellowship 6115 Arlington Ave Riverside, CA 92504. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to: Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation @ www.aamds.org.
