As manager of Keifer's Restaurant in the 1980's and 90's we got to see a lot of Sonny.  He and one of his comrades in crime, Fred, would come in after guard duty.   Sonny always had a smile on his face and a question(s) in his head.  He was always quick to start a conversation. He made a lot of friends there at the restaurant.   He had a way of making you want to keep a conversation going.   I haven't seen him in a while but I'll still miss that mischievous smile and his great sense of humor and curiosity that made him a fun guy and someone that is good to know.   Christ Peace Sonny! 

I worked with Sonny many years in the 172nd. He will be deeply missed. We were both "foodies", and we seem to have many of the same favorite Restaurants. We became close through the years. For twenty five years I ran the Drill payroll for the 172nd, which meant that Sonny and I would work closely together. Prayers are extended to Mary and the family.

When I enlisted at the 172nd and  placed in 183rd Air Evac as a medical admin ,  Wallace “Sonny” Worthy  received me wholeheartedly.  I became very close to him working under his supervision  daily. My greatest memory is when I found a little ceramic bear carry a flag reading ‘Just bear with me’.  He looked at me and said Connie....in that southern voice  where you get that, I like it.  This stayed on his desk.  Those who served with him know this was what he would say.  He is missed.  My condolences to family and friends!

I was in 183rd for seven years (1965 - 1972)  I remember Sonny with great memories.  A lot of fun flights all over the world.  I think he was one with a cold pizza on a flight to Europe one time that smelled awful.
Hope he is resting well now.

SMSgt Wallace C. “Sonny” Worthey interviewed me to insure that I knew what I was signing up for. He pulled no strings and held nothing back.  He was a great mentor and friend through the years he and I served together.  Following his retirement, usually at Christmas, my wife and I would run into him at the mall.  He loved going there to people watch.  He would always shout “Johnny boy”. I knew his voice immediately and would turn to him and talk for about 30 mins, sometimes longer. He always asked about my boys and wanted to know what was going on at the base.  Always kind hearted and loved deeply.  He will be missed.

I met Sonny through membership in the 183 Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron where he served as a dedicated full-time employee. He helped hundreds of people transition to the military and contributed greatly to the numerous successes achieved by the unit.  For many years he singlehandedly provided all the background support that made the unit great!

As a friend there was never a better one! I’ll miss him greatly!

Sonny and I worked together in the 183rd Air Evac Squadron. What a wonderful man. Thanks for all the great memories, Sonny.

We are both retired from the Guard. Charlie as a full time flight engineer, Becky as a flight nurse.Sonny was a wonderful and caring individual but full of life. We smoked a great deal together and laughed so often. Sonny would always ask “ what have you got in your refrigerator for Charlie “
