Ruby B. Allen

Mrs. Allen was born in the Mississippi Delta in 1931 and shortly thereafter moved to the Rocky Branch community in rural Lamar County, MS. She was one of ten children, having five sisters and four brothers.

Mrs. Allen graduated from high school at the age of 15, as it took her only one year to pass the first and second grades and only one year to pass the seventh and eighth grades. She then went to Pearl River College, which is now Pearl River Junior College and graduated from there at age 17. While there, she won several honors and held several positions, including Miss Pearl River College, Homecoming Queen, and sports editor of the school newspaper.

After graduation she went to work at Columbia Bank in Columbia, MS. Shortly thereafter she met her future husband, Don Noblitt, and they were married in May of 1952. Later that year they moved from Columbia to Jackson, MS, and she began her career as a legal secretary at Watkins & Eager law firm. She remained there for over 42 years, and her boss for over 30 years was Mr. Bill Goodman. In 1964, Mr. Goodman and Mrs. Allen were named Boss and Secretary of the year.

Mrs. Allen’s first husband, Don Noblitt, passed away in 1977 after over 25 years of marriage. In 1980, she married John Allen, and they were married for over 26 years before he passed away in 2007.

For many years Mrs. Allen was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church, serving in numerous positions on many committees. She was also well known for her chocolate fudge and buttermilk biscuits. She made them for many years for her co-workers, family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Everitt and Ethel Bond, as well as her sisters, Mary Nell Atkinson, Annie Jean Riles, Ida Holmes and Arluin Miller, and brothers, Bill Bond, J.W. Bond and Bo Bond.

Survivors include her son Don Noblitt (Holley) and two grandchildren, Tatum N. Goodman (Gray) and Scott H. Noblitt (Carolyn). She is also survived by four great-grandchildren – Herrin Goodman, Wade Goodman, Hart Noblitt and Holden Noblitt. Additionally, she is survived by a sister, Joyce Elmore (Murrah) and a brother, Shelton Bond (Debbie) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 16th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS immediately followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers please send any donations to Wesley Biblical Seminary, P. O. Box 9938, Jackson, MS 39286, or to a charity of your choice.
