Pauline was born on September 13, 1927 in Covington County to John and Nannie Lou Pickering. She graduated from Gilfoy School of Nursing of Mississippi Baptist Hospital.
She was a registered nurse for thirty and a half years at the Jackson VA Medical Center. She was the head nurse of Orthopedic/Neurosurgery for most of that time, and finished her career in Hypertensive Research. She loved her career of helping other people.
She loved to cook, and delighted many with her cakes and petit fours. She will be remembered for her selflessness in checking on and doing things for her friends and family, as well as enjoying time with them. We will always remember the great example she set with her life. She loved people and God, and lived her life in a way that reflected that. A true southern belle she was.
For many years, she and her husband were very active in the National Ex-POW Organization. They were also very active in Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Nannie Lou Pickering, and her siblings, Alma Bottoms, Bertha Farmer, Ben Pickering, Glen Pickering, Paul Pickering, John Pickering, and Charles Pickering.
She is survived by her husband, C. E. “Earl” Derrington, Jr.; son, C. E. “Chip” Derrington, III (Redonna); sisters, Faye Porch and Janet Bethany; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; as well as many wonderful friends.
A private family graveside service will be held Friday, April 17, 2020 at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland. Due to recent health concerns, relatives and friends will be invited to a celebration of life for Pauline at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her many caregivers over the past year.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a favorite charity of your choice.
