Jean (Curtis) Butler

Ivy Jean Curtis Butler, age 86, passed away in the early hours of October 17, 2019 at St. Catherine’s Village, Memory Care, Hughes Center in Madison, Ms. She was the longest current resident with Alzheimer’s at St. Catherine’s Village. She had been there for 11 years. She was born March 2,1933 in Dyersburg, TN and is survived by 1 brother, James Curtis, Jr of California and 1 sister, Martha Nell Curtis Rochester of Maryland. She was the daughter of James Ethra Curtis and Ruby Ivy Chipman. She had 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Jean married Lt. Col. Floyd Lee Butler and they had 6 children. Martha Sharon Butler Chandler (Jerry) of Mobile, AL; Lloyd Leon Butler (Martha), Jackson, TN; Linda Jean Butler Novosel (Bill), Stevensville, MD; Mark Richardson Butler, Brandon, MS; Tommy Earl Butler (Gale), Madison, MS; Daniel (Danny) E. Butler (Cindy), Flowood, MS. At the time of her death, she had 20+ grandchildren, 30+ great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

She traveled the world as a military wife while raising 6 children. She did this by being a spunky, fiery Queen of her house. After all her children were grown, she went to college and got her degree and started her career as a dental assistant. She concluded her career at the University Dental School as an Administrator in the Restorative Department.

A celebration of her life will occur at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:30 and her service beginning at 11:30. Her service will be officiated by Dr. Greg Pouncey, First Baptist Church, Clinton, Mississippi.

Many thanks to all the nurses, caregivers and friends who cared for our Mother at St. Catherine’s Village for 11 years. We love you all! We are comforted knowing she has her memory back and is in his Arms.
