Helen Hull Potts, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014. Visitation we be 9:30 to 11:00 am Wednesday, Sept. 10, at St. Richards Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am, followed by Mausoleum Entombment at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Helen was born Aug. 6, 1930 in Sedalia, MO to Grover C. and Vallie Belle Hull. She grew up in Kansas City, MO, graduating from Central High School in 1948. Shortly thereafter, she met Byron Thomas Potts and married him Sept. 15, 1951. The two moved to Jackson, MS, in 1958 where they settled and raised a beautiful family. Helen and Byron were devoted parents, always making the family the center of their lives.
Helen was a long-time and faithful member of St Richard's Catholic Church, joining in 1958, and was in the St. Gerard Majella Circle. She was an Executive Secretary for the Board of Directors for Deposit Guarantee National Bank (now Regions). She worked there for over 25 years before retiring in 1986.
Helen thoroughly enjoyed her retirement. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, was an avid reader and enthusiastic sports fan. She loved cheering for the Chiefs, Saints, and Giants!
She is survived by her children: Janet Marie Potts, John Thomas Potts, Michael Joseph (Kathy) Potts, and Nancy Potts (Doug) Hampton; grandchildren: Torrie Owens, Damon Lash, Mary Potts, Michael Byron Potts, Sarah Crites, Laura Potts, Michael Potts, Jr., Caroline Hampton, and Emily Hampton; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Campbell Cove at St. Catherine's for their ongoing love and attention to her every need, as well as the wonderful nurses at Baptist Hospital and Dr. Holland Addison.
Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, CARA, or Catholic Charities.
