Doris Weeks passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. She was the daughter of Calvin Watson, Sr. and Letha Elvy Morris Watson in Eupora, MS. She moved to Jackson after high school and worked at Jefferson Standard Life Insurance, W. P. Bridges Insurance, and Bailey & Bailey Insurance.
She married John P. Weeks, Sr. in 1947 and both were long time members of First Baptist Church Jackson. She sang in the Reflections Choir and cherished Glenn who directed the choir. She loved her church bible study circle with Peggy Johnson. When she retired, she volunteered at The Gleaners and cooked for the Internationals mission at First Baptist Church.
She loved her cousin’s reunion each year, her faith, family, and turnip greens…and laughter.
She is predeceased by her parents; husband, John P. Weeks, Sr.; daughter, Carolyn Weeks Galloway; brother, Rupert Watson, Jr. and his wife Mary Lucille “Lucy” Hodges Watson; sister, Maurine Vail and her husband Henry H. Vail.
She is survived by her son, John P. Weeks, Jr. and wife Nancy and daughters, Lea Weeks Matthews and Dorothy Weeks. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Evan Weeks (Kari), Shannon Weeks, Drew Weeks, Leslie Galloway, and Riley Galloway (Erin) and four great grandchildren, Lily, Laurel, James, and Charlie as well as many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral Service will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm with visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in her name to First Baptist Church Jackson Lottie Moon ministry, The Gleaners in Jackson or the charity of your choice.
