Dennis Clifford (Cliff) Shanks of Pascagoula passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, June 8th, 2013. He was 41. Cliff, son of Don Shanks of Madison and Pam Flint of Jackson, was born in Jackson on August 30, 1971.
Cliff was preceded in death by his grandparents Fred and Frances Shanks of Jackson, and Dennis and Jean Chancellor of Forrest. Besides his parents, Cliff is survived by his children, Andie and Jake, and their mother Michelle Coggins Shanks of Pascagoula. He is also survived by his half sister, Jordan Flint, half-brother, Chance Flint, and step-father, Stan Flint of Jackson. He is also survived by his uncles, David Shanks of Shreveport, Doug Shanks of Brandon, and aunts, Kaye Gray of Byram, Mimi Barrett of Nashville,
Beth Frizsell of Jackson, and Cindy Fant of Jackson and by his special friend, Christy Kelly of Dauphin Island.
Cliff graduated from Clinton High School where he was a member of the 1990 State Championship Baseball Team. Cliff was named All State and signed a baseball scholarship with Ole Miss. Cliff transferred to Lassen College in California, where he was named All-America and the most valuable player in the Golden Valley Conference. He then signed a scholarship with Auburn University, where he had one of the most productive seasons in Auburn baseball history. In 1993 he was named to the All-Southeastern Conference and the NCAA All Regional team. Cliff concluded his collegiate career at William Carey University, where he received his BS degree. Cliff played professional baseball with the BUTE Copper Kings of The Pioneer League. He was employed with the Bailey Lumber
Company in Ocean Springs.
Serving as pall bearers will be Fred Shanks, Sim Shanks, Davey Shanks, Justin Gray, Jason Gray, Bryce Barrett, and Chance Flint.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway form 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00am at the Funeral home with visitation starting at 9:00am.
