Yolanda was a devoted mother, daughter, and sister who loved her family and enjoyed laughter and fun. She was an eager learner and earned a number of degrees and certificates throughout her life. Her passions included reading, traveling, and learning any and everything she could. Despite her constant struggles throughout her life she always remained positive. She was a loving person who would give to anyone in need. Redd was an exceptional mother. No matter what she was going through she made a way for her children even when she was sick. She was not only smart and beautiful inside and out, but she was patient and humble. She was one of a kind and truly an angel on Earth.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen L. Simms; father, Henry Redd, Sr.; daughter Chae’Meshia Simms; and grandson, Cayden Simms. She is survived by her children, Dacian, Talia, Michael and Samantha Simms (Vance); grandchildren, Delquan, Zyaira, Jaheir, and Najier Simms, Karmyn Simms, Markus Floyd, Jr., Tyren Fleming, Kamira Simms-Mason, Tavon Simms, Sa'Mayah, and Jameir Cousins; two sisters, Mary and Bernadette Simms; two brothers, Sylvester Simms and Henry Redd, Jr.; three nieces; three nephews; and a host of great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles and cousins and two devoted friends, Cameron Oglesby and Kelvin Allen.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23231.
