Obituary of Willie Lee Jones Jr.
Jones, Jr. Willie L, 90, of Montpelier, formally of Short Pump and Laurel Va. passed away October 18, 2012. He was predeceased by an infant son, Willie and the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Ollie Lee Jones who he rejoined five days short of what would have been their 68th anniversary. He is survived by his grandson, Lee, of whom he was as proud of as any grandparent could be for all of his great accomplishments at such a young age, his daughter-in- law, Mary whom he chose for his son, Bill as she could drive a hay tractor and that he should “not let this one get away”, and his son, Bill of whom he had daily phone conversations of yesterday’s accomplishments, today’s plans and tomorrow’s goals of which there were always many. He loved and was loved by many nephews and nieces as well. Bill, upon returning from serving the Army in WWII, began following in the family tracks of working with the Richmond Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad. He retired as Master Mechanic overseeing operations of ACCA Yard and shops in Richmond after 44 years of service ending over 580 total years of service by the Jones family with the railroad. After retirement he turned his attention to many other hobbies including camping, collecting and restoring fire hydrants, fire hose carts and helping his neighbors with whatever projects they had. Bill and Ollie spent many days traveling as part of Sundowners Chapter of the Good Sams Camping Club. His work with the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society earned him the Bob White award, the highest honor given to a single member each year for their work with the organization. In everything he did, he always exhibited and had a sense of humor in whatever project was in front of him and sharing the same to those he was working with. A member of West Hunt Baptist for many years, he also attended Western Hanover Baptist on occasions, which was closer to his new home. He enjoyed helping with whatever tasks were needed but some of his favorites were the Living Nativity and sharing his donkeys for the productions or giving hayrides to the kids at his farm. He also enjoyed the family yearly fall Stew N Que production and manning his stewpot to insure it was cooked to a proper consistency for all to enjoy. There are many friends and family members who will miss his being with us. Please know he has rejoined his wife Ollie, his sisters Cora and Grace, brother Ernie and parents Willie and Alice who went on before him, and a nephew, Ronnie who was instrumental in getting him the extra time we had and was called to go ahead and get things ready for him. The family wishes to thank you all for your many calls and well wishes over these past months and know that we appreciate your love for him and for us. We would also like to thank all the nurses at Virginia Cancer Institute and Kendra and Susan from Hospice of Virginia for their care and concern. Visitation will be from 2- 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road where services will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 at 10am with interment to follow at Westhampton Memorial Park. Bill was always a believer of waste not, want not and would be very happy to have donations made to Old Dominion Historical Fire Society, West Hunt Baptist Church or Western Hanover Baptist Church in his name rather than flowers that would soon wither and pass away. His was a belief that money could be better used in other ways. Please choose one of these ways or one of your own choosing to honor him. Condolences may be sent to woodyfuneralparham.com.
