Virginia Sutphin Baugher, age 96, formerly of Danville, Virginia passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024.
She is the daughter of the late William Howard Sutphin and Gladys Sutphin Bradbury, and is preceded in death by her brothers', Mark Allen Sutphin, John E. Sutphin, and Charles L. Sutphin.
Virginia was born on July 12, 1927 in Pulaski County. She grew up in Christiansburg, Virginia before going into the nurses training In Washington DC. She obtained her nursing degree and began working as a registered nurse for Danville Memorial Hospital and then later for surgeons, Dr. Byrd, Dr. Stoneburner, and Dr. Sprinkle in their office until she retired. Virginia was a lifelong member of Grace Design Methodist Church. After her retirement Virginia loved to travel, and took up many hobbies such as knitting, and reading. When she was not reading you could catch her watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Virginia leaves behind her daughter, Nancy Baugher McGrew; Grandchildren, Teresa McGrew Morgan of Dunnsville VA, Troy David McGrew (Vicki) of Mechanicsville VA; Great Grandchildren, Taylor Marie McGrew, Austin Troy McGrew of Mechanicsville VA, and Makenzie Dawn Morgan of Dunnsville VA. Virginia also leaves behind her brother, Michael L. Sutphin (Pat) of Lanexa VA.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Monday, January 8, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23059. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Mt Vernon Memorial Park, 11220 Nuckols Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23059. The Central Virginia Nurses Honor Guard will be paying tribute and honor to Virginia's dedication to the nursing profession.
