She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Weis; and grandparents, John David and Lottie Seal Johnson. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Katherine “Katie” Louise Lail; son, Johnny Lee Daniel (Mia); granddaughter, Dymond Lee (Jake); grandson, Christopher Michael “C.J.”; beloved great grandchildren, Grace Lee, Rosemary Jane; favorite cousin, Georgia Shortridge; so many good friends, one very special Deacon Gertrude Johnson, and Viola “Nanny” Seamster.
Valerie drove a school bus for Caroline and Henrico County Schools for over 27 years, retiring from Caroline Public Schools. She loved all the children that rode her bus over the years, always remembering holidays and birthdays.
She was a devoted caretaker to many. Valerie loved digging into her family’s ancestry, collecting beautiful antique dolls, and spending time with her loved ones. She especially loved spending time with her sweet cat, “Snowball”.
Valerie was also a proud member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 21, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
