Thomas Alvin Young, 76, of Quinton Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mae Young; daughter, Terri Leigh; brother, Harold Young and sister, Velma Ragland. Serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, Tom retired from the Army after 21 years, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2; he spent the next 15 years as director of maintenance at the Masonic Home of Virginia. He was an active member of Montrose Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending his time fishing, traveling and working in the yard. But what he loved most of all was spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Young; children, Thomas A. Young Jr. (Kathy), ReginaYoung, Jeffrey Robertson (Nikki) and Kristin Parsley (Paul); grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, Brittany, Hannah, Jesse, Russell and Zachary; great-grandchildren, Allison, Alexis, Audrey, Michael, Olivia, Riley and Zachary Jr.; sisters, Margie Branton, Claire Hammond, Norma Waddell and Josephine McElroy; mother-in-law, Mary Kathleen Wheeler and a host of friends and family who loved him dearly. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 17, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond VA 23231. Services will be held on Thursday, June 18, at 11am in the Nelsen Chapel, with interment to follow at Washington Memorial Cemetery, 6217 Memorial Dr. Sandston VA 23150. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia or the charity of your choice.
