Sandra Wood Parsons, age 82, of Richmond, Virginia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Sandy was born in Norfolk, VA on July 5, 1940, the only child of the late Mildred Lee and Ernest E. Wood. Her loving memory will be cherished by her son, Scott E. Parsons (Stacey), grandchildren Sara Hollenbeck (John) and Spenser Parsons (Paige Lazar), great-grandson Thomas Hollenbeck, and many cousins and dear friends.
Sandy was a member of the Granby High School band and an honor graduate of the Class of 1958. Later, she began a successful banking career with Seaboard Citizens/United Virginia/Crestar/SunTrust Bank. Sandy worked in many capacities over her 33 years at the bank but found her niche in marketing and event planning where she excelled.
Sandy lived most of her life in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. She enjoyed traveling with her dear friends the “Needle Nuts”, trips to the Eastern Shore to visit close friends, visiting art museums, attending plays and musicals in NYC, and vacationing in the Outer Banks with close friends. She also enjoyed parties and gatherings with the “Top of the Hill” group, developing close relationships and serving others as a part of the King’s Daughters Cypress Point Circle, playing gin and bunko with friends, time spent with family and friends at the River in Lancaster Co., and eating steamed crabs anywhere she could find them.
Later in life, Sandy moved to the Cedarfield community in Henrico Co. to be closer to her family. While only at Cedarfield for a few short years, she developed new and close relationships with her neighbors there and enjoyed many activities.
But of all the joys of her life, her family ranked at the top. She was a fine lady, a loyal and loving friend to many, and a truly wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was Nana, her favorite identifier of all.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 7 at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Pkwy, Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, January 6 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA. You may leave comments on the on-line guestbook at www.woodyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Sandy’s honor to a charity of your choice.
